About the Commitee

The California Partners Project’s statewide Youth Advisory Committee focuses on the intersections of social media and technology; youth mental health; and pillars of child well-being (social-emotional health, exercise/outdoor access, nutrition, & sleep). 

​

The Committee will have opportunities to participate with statewide efforts and meet state leaders and policymakers through the California Office of the First Partner, Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being, and the California Partners Project.

Youth Advisory Committee members are California high school students with diverse backgrounds, identities, experiences, and interests.

Committee Orientation

​

Committee orientation will be held on September 12, 2024, from 6:30-8:00pm. Orientation will take place on Zoom.

​

2024-2025 Committee Meetings

​

Committee meetings will be facilitated in collaboration with the California State Alliance of YMCAs. The Committee meets monthly by Zoom between September 2024 - May 2025 on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm. Meeting dates are:

  • September 19, 2024

  • October 17, 2024

  • November 14, 2024

  • December 19, 2024

  • January 16, 2025

  • February 20, 2025

  • March 20, 2025

  • April 17, 2025

  • May 15, 2025

 

Additional virtual and/or in-person meetings and events to be announced. Attendance will be optional but highly encouraged.

 

Application Timeline

 

  • June 3: Applications open

  • June 23: Applications due by 8:59pm PT

  • July 17-19: Group interviews for select applicants

  • July 31: Final Committee selections

FAQ's For Applicants

What is the California Partners Project? The non-profit California Partners Project, co-founded by California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and Olivia Morgan, champions gender equity across the state and ensures our state’s media and technology industries are a force for good in the lives of all children.

Who is eligible to serve on the Committee? Committee members must be: 1) California residents, 2) California high school students (grades 9-12 for the 2024-2025 school year), AND 3) invited to apply by a nominating partner organization.

What is expected of Committee members? Committee membership requires approximately 3-5 hours per month and members are expected to:

  • Attend a Zoom orientation on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 6:30-8:00pm.
  • Attend at least (7) monthly Zoom meetings between September 2024 -May 2025, held from 6:30-8:00pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month (9/19, 10/17, 11/14, 12/19, 1/16, 2/20, 3/20, 4/17, and 5/15).
  • Participate in at least (1) engagement with the California Office of the First Partner and/or the California Office of the Governor (virtual or in-person).
  • Contribute meaningfully to a culminating project in collaboration with the Committee and the California Partners Project.
  • Members that meet these requirements will receive a $1,000 participation stipend. Additional virtual or in-person meetings/events to be announced. Attendance will be optional but highly encouraged.

How will Committee members be selected? All applications will be reviewed by the California Partners Project. Semifinalists will be invited to a virtual group interview to be held on July 8th, July 17th, or July 18th, 2024. All applicants will be notified of decisions by July 31, 2024.

How do I apply? First, review all materials and confirm that you are eligible to apply and can meet the expectations of Committee members (see above). Then, submit your application using the form below. *Only apply if you have been invited by an approved organization.* Applications are due Sunday, June 23, 2024 by 8:59pm PT.
